I believe we should have a option to destroy old equipment into ores with the exception of getting junk as well

This could possibly be a skill. Have a new branch on the skill tree for profession things. Crafting and gathering.

Crafting
improve craft quality
Shorten times between crafts
lowers amount of mats required to craft items
salvage - break down equipment into component parts and trash
improved salvage - increase mats obtained

Gathering
gather more bits
wait less time for gathering

kinda at a loss as to what else you could do to gathering.
